Despite the fact that I already described in my article how to edit photos on iPad and iPhone, but the latest revision of the Photo editing application on iOS 13 and iPadOS requires me to take a new approach in covering the full range of functions.

In the built-in photo editor iOS 13 there are a bunch of new options for improving iPhone images. Video can now be edited directly on the iPhone and iPad too.

New Photo Editing Tools

The editing menu consists of three tabs: “Correction”, “Filters” and “Straightening”, “Crop/Rotate” . The first contains tools to improve the quality of the photo, the second contains filters, and the third contains options for changing the display and cropping of images.

The user can adjust the intensity of each effect and filter himself – for this, they added a special scale with a slider. For convenience, the intensity is also displayed in the numerical range from -100 to 100. The updated photo editor works on the principle of Non-destructive editing: you can roll back the changes by clicking on the selected effect or filter once.

The following options are available to users to improve the quality of photos:

• Auto. The first tool on the list is auto-correction. It automatically changes the necessary parameters of the picture so that it looks organically. Using auto correct is simple, just click the “Edit” button in the upper right corner of the screen and tap the icon with a magic wand. To go to other options, swipe left;
• Exposure. Often, dark or light portions of a photograph are poorly detailed due to too little or too much exposure. The tool of the same name allows you to quickly adjust it;
• Brilliance. With this option, you can additionally highlight the bright spots in the photo and give them additional shine. Very cool tool works with images of bright sky;
• Highlights. The tool is designed for isolated editing of highlights. The application itself determines them on the selected photo, and then the user changes the saturation and brightness at his discretion;
• Shadows. A tool similar to the previous one for working in dark areas in the photo. Helps highlight or hide details of a picture that are hidden in the shadow;
• Contrast. An option to adjust the contrast in photos and one of the most effective ways to take a cool black and white picture on iPhone. On color images using the setting, you can find the perfect balance between the colors;
• Brightness. If the photo is too bright or too gloomy, you can fix it with this tool. Swipe on a scale to the left decreases the brightness, and swipe to the right – increases;
• Black Point. This option is created for tone correction of photos. It is used to improve image detail in dark areas, such as shadows. Useful option for pictures taken at dusk or when using artificial lighting;
• Saturation. The tool allows you to adjust the intensity of the entire color gamut in the picture. By changing the purity of the color, the user can affect the perception of the picture by others. Vivid colors are suitable for dynamic shots, and muted – for static, for example, landscapes;
• Vibrance.By the principle of operation, this instrument resembles the previous one, but acts more on cold tones. Its intensity is also noticeably less;
• Warmth. With this option, everything is clear: the user can make the picture warmer or colder. Unlike the Saturation tool, the colors are almost not distorted during adjustment;
• Tint. If you like the look of photos taken on a film camera, you will like this tool. It changes the overall hue of the image: from greenish to red;
• Sharpness. Tool to reduce blur. It will help to improve a photo taken in a hurry, or a scanned copy of a paper photograph or document;
• Definition. This setting enhances image detail. Using it, you can highlight small details in the photo, hiding in the shade or in bright areas;
• Noise Reduction. Another tool for those who need to convey a maximum of small details. With it, you can remove digital noise in pictures taken in poor conditions. It is important not to overdo it with intensity: then the photo will be cloudy and blurry;
• Vignette. Artistic effect to highlight a significant part of the photo. If you use it, in the corners and at the bottom the image is darkened or highlighted, and in the center remains in its original form.

Photo Filters

You can apply a series of filters to all photos. Their number in iOS 13 did not change, but Apple added a scale with a slider to fine-tune their intensity – the same as for adjusting effects.

A list of all options for iOS 13 users is available below. Their names speak for themselves, so we will limit ourselves to examples of images on which filters of different intensities have previously been applied:

Perspective Editing

Using this tab, the user can crop the photo, flip it, change the perspective or make a mirror copy of the photo. A tool to help improve a bad shot and tidy up a composition. With a single click, you can flip the image so that all horizontal lines are parallel.

If you take a photo of some object from below or from the side, visually one of its edges may be closer to each other than others. IOS 13 photo editor allows you to change the vertical and horizontal perspective and make pictures more professional.

Portraits Editing

iOS 13 also introduced new portrait editing options. This function is available on last year’s iPhone, as well as on iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. You can adjust the intensity of the “Portrait Lighting” function.

Conclusion

The updated iOS 13 video editor works perfectly: it doesn’t lag, filters and effects are applied instantly and look just fine. But still there is one drawback. If your iPhone is already a few years old, may take several minutes for rendering image.

Chrome already has several versions of a dark theme, but it does not change the appearance of sites – they remain white. Of course, there are enough extensions that correct this annoying flaw, but Google decided to independently add the function of “blackening” pages in the browser:

• After that, enter the chrome command in its address bar:

• We ned “Force Dark Mode for Web Contents” section, and now you can choose one of the options for the dark mode. In my opinion, the “Enable selective inversion of non-image elements” mode, that is will look optimal;

• Relaunch Chrome browser.

Conclusion

If you spend a lot of time on Facebook, then switching it to Black mode will be an obvious salvation for your eyes. In general, the changes affect all sites, not only facebook and reading at night significantly reduces the load on your grain.

iPhone Notes App

iOS 13 brought a lot more useful innovations than was originally announced. One of them is the updated Notes application, which now supports scanning and marking documents. Probably at first glance this function seems to be pretty, but how useful can this little feature be?
