Select a File or Folder and Hit Return Key
The first method of renaming a file or a folder is straightforward. All you have to do is to select the file or the folder that you want to rename and then hit the return key. After that, you will be provided with the chance to enter the new name. This is the traditional method of renaming a file or a folder in your Mac as well.
Select a File or a Folder and Click on the Name with your Cursor
The second method is relatively straightforward as well. You will need to select the file or the folder that you want to rename. You can do it by pressing on the icon. Then you can hover to the name and then click your mouse again. Then you will be provided with the ability to rename it. You can simply rename the item and hit return. Right Click on the File or Folder and Select Rename

Rename with the Command Line
This will be an advanced method of renaming files. In here, you can rename a file or a folder through the directory and you will have to access the Terminal to get the job done. In order to do this from the command line, you will need to type in the below mentioned syntax, by replacing the file names as preferred.

A Quick Note on Renaming Files and Folders
You should keep in mind that renaming some files can change their extension. As a result, the behavior of those files will be affected negatively. It will also change the way how those files respond.
